The colour
scheme of this magazine is brown, yellow and white. These colours have
connotations. The dark brown colours could connote that the band has depth. The
band are mostly wearing dark/brown clothing and they are have brown hair this
could show that they are an original band that are natural and are not trying
to be anything special unlike some popular music personalities. This is a
statement saying, ‘They are what they are’ and are not trying to be anything
they are not. The Yellow and light in the back ground of the front cover could
symbolise they rise to musical fame. This is supported by the Strap Line. This
is Anchorage the Strap Line says “How Britain’s best band finally broke
through” and the light in the background shows that light is finally broke
through.
The Pull
Quote states, “Never Compromise” this is a quote from the band and tells the
viewer that no matter what ‘The Horrors’ have never sold out or compromised.
They have stuck to their chosen path and will never do anything that could
potential ruin their Music and that all they care about, the music. The Main
image is a mixture of direct and indirect addresses. Three band members are
looking directly at the reader and the other two are looking somewhere off
frame. This could suggest they are looking at something like an audience of
people.
The Promos
is a contest that has the chance to allow you to win tickets to Reading and
Leeds music festivals. This catches the reader’s eye and
could help sell the magazine. Other hooking techniques are used such as more
pull quotes like “it’s going to be special” fans of Nirvana will be interested
to find out about Nirvana’s reissues. The use of recent news is also used such
as Amy Winehouse’s death is used as a hooking device.
The Pull
Quote “Never Compromise” is Ploysemy because it could have several different
meanings. It could be used to tell the reader that the band with always be
original and not sell out to compromise their music. It could also be
interpreted as a message to readers so they can stay true to who they are and
don’t give in to other people. Most of the Cover shares the same Text and only
the Masthead and the Strap line has different text.
The Main
image is a mid shot of the entire band and only captures them from the waist up
which differs from most magazine covers which use a Close up of the subject.
However when there is a band of the front cover, a mid shot is usually used.
