Music Magazine Proposal

Music Magazine Proposal

My Music Magazine’s sub-genre is going to be Indie music. This is because I believe that it is currently one of the most popular genres, meaning that my magazine will appeal to a larger audience. The name of my Magazine will be ‘UpBeat.’ I have chosen this name because allot of popular music at the moment is very ‘up beat’ with a positive feel. Allot of people listen to cheerful music in a major key to feel good. The Name ‘Up Beat’ creates a feeling of positivity. The magazine will give reviews of bands that produce ‘Feel Good’ songs that people love to listen and dance to.

My Target audience will be from the age group 16 to 30, mostly young adults. The magazine will be for anyone who has an interest in music, not just the Indie genre. ‘UpBeat’ will also cover some other popular genres in its feature but will mostly be on its chosen genre, Indie. This is because I don’t want to limit my magazine to just one Genre and therefor just one group of people. I want ‘UpBeat’ to be a ‘relaxed’ magazine when it comes to its features and not just limit itself to one type of music and people. Ideal readers of ‘UpBeat’ would be people that just want to listen to good music and learn more about their favourite bands and aren’t just dedicated to one genre of music. The Target Audience would have to have a flexible taste in music and are willing to give a chance to bands with a different feel and sound.

UpBeat will be published by IPC Media. The Same Publisher that has published other music magazines such as NME. IPC Media are renown for publishing great magazines so If UpBeat is published by IPC the magazine will almost get immediate recognition and publicity.

Features that will likely to be included in UpBeat are: Reviews of upcoming albums, Reviews of festivals from 2013 and advice on which Festivals to go to in the summer of 2014, Top 10 UpBeat songs of the month that will get you tapping your feet and The Headline Acts preforming at festivals of 2014. One of the main features in Upbeat will be about Festivals in 2014. The feature will contain reviews from people about the festivals from the previous summer and help them to decide on what festivals to attend in the summer of 2014. The review will include the reviews of the acts, music and the quality of the festival ground themselves, such as them campsites where people will be staying for the festival. The pictures I will use show what it is like when the artists are preforming and the conditions of the living areas. These pictures will help give the reader a feel for the general atmosphere of the festival and to help the reader decide if the festival is for them. This feature will also include a competition to win tickets to Leeds and V-festival.

Upbeat will be printed and distributed to stores all over the UK. Digital copies on the web and for tablets and other handheld devices will also be available. UpBeat will cost £1.80 because that was considered a reasonable price on the survey that I did recently. This price is relatively cheap for a music magazine. Its low price will encourage people to buy the new magazine and after UpBeat has acquired a stable amount of subscriptions the price can be negotiated.

One of UpBeats unique selling point will be that with every issue there will be a code inside that allows you to download one of the top ‘UpBeat Songs of The Month’ on to your Mp3 player. Another selling point is that UpBeat is a magazine that has not limited itself to only one genre and is relaxed when it comes to reviewing different music and bands.
